No reason to study. There will always be a strong reason backing our behavior. It is the same with your child. He / she does not know why attending school is important.
Lack of self confidence. Children will usually excel in things that they are confident in. When your child does not do well in school, it could be an issue of low self esteem and confidence.
No success strategy. There are certain success principles and strategy towards success in school and life. Without the knowledge of these principles and strategies, your child may dislike having to study, because it takes more time and effort to study.

What A Self Motivated Child Will Do

Simply giving your child extra tuition is not the best way to help them. While the intention for tuition is commendable, they learn nothing if they are not receptive or motivated to learn in the first place.
